Camposagrado Palace
Camposagrado Palace is one of the finest examples of 18th-century palace architecture in Oviedo. Located beside Porlier Square in the historic centre, it is notable for its monumental façades and its close connection with the city's institutional history.

The palace of the Marquises of Camposagrado
Camposagrado Palace was built for José Manuel Bernaldo de Quirós, the third Marquis of Camposagrado, on properties owned by his family in this part of Oviedo.
Plans for the new building took shape in 1719 under the direction of architect Francisco de la Riva Ladrón de Guevara. After his death, Pedro Antonio Menéndez de Ambás resumed the works in 1744 and introduced changes to the original design. The palace was largely completed by 1752.
Two monumental façades
The building is an urban palace with an approximately quadrangular plan arranged around a central courtyard. As a freestanding building, it has several façades, although the most representative are those facing Porlier Square and San Juan Street.
The involvement of different architects explains the variations in architectural language. Francisco de la Riva designed a composition of considerable solidity, while Pedro Antonio Menéndez introduced more ornamental and distinctly Baroque solutions during the final phase of construction.
Fire and reconstruction
Camposagrado Palace suffered severe damage during the October Revolution of 1934, when the building was set on fire. Restoration was carried out around 1940 under the direction of architect Enrique Rodríguez Bustelo.
A few years later, on 26 May 1943, the building was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, a protected status now corresponding to Spain's category of Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest).
Seat of the High Court of Justice of Asturias
The palace currently houses the High Court of Justice of Asturias. Its institutional role has helped preserve one of the major historic buildings in central Oviedo while keeping it connected to public life.
Its location, just a short distance from Oviedo Cathedral and facing Porlier Square, makes it easy to include the palace on a walking route through the main historic palaces and monuments of Oviedo's old town.
